How to have an impromptu date night

DISCLAIMER:ย  95% of the time I eat a plant based diet and do not eat dairy (lots of reasons). However, one of my favorite traditions is pizza night with my husband and I am not giving that up. We rarely have it, but it is a big bonding thing. Balance people; okay?

There are tons of articles and posts online and on social media about how important balance is. I thought I was pretty good at balance, but recently life has felt extra fast paced. Eric has been gone, there’s stuff going on with our taxes, we’re moving, craziness of holiday season, I’m working a lot on blogging and social media.ย  I’ve been feeling like Liz Lemon from 30 Rock trying to “have it all”. Eric and I realized we hadn’t taken time for just the two of us in way too long.

I sent Eric a text at 2pm on a random Wednesday saying that we should have a date night. He immediately agreed. After some back and forth on where to go and what to do, we agreed on an at home pizza night with candles and wine. No TV or phones. We actually sat at the table instead of on the couch. It was nice to talk about our days without talking over whatever was on TV or glancing at various social media apps (or in Eric’s case- phone games).

Afterwords we laid a blanket by our fire place and cuddled with our dogs. We finished our wine and had a nice romantic evening. One of the best things about being home instead of going out was getting to be in comfy pajamas the whole time. It was wonderful to take time to just be together.

Dates nights don’t have to be fancy (although those are fun too!), the most important thing is spending time with your person, being together, and doing something you both love.

  1. My husband and I both work from home, so I guess I could say he and I kind of have date nights and days all the time, ha! I mean, we don’t go out and do activities, etc like one would on a date, but sometimes I find Home Depot more fun that a kitchy date-night place! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. This is the perfect date for me.I really prefer having quality time together indoors than going out to a fancy restaurant and not being comfortable.

  3. That is a lovely idea for a date night. I do love pizza but I don’t have it very often. I should propose a similar date night to my boyfriend.

  4. Wonderful sharing! Thank you very much for this amazing article, will try this for next weekend!

  5. what a great idea is this! especially this time of the year when everything seems to be more expensive and crowded too! really a great way to spend quality time together!

  6. Oh it is so important to dedicate time to each other and spend some quality time together phone and TV-free. Crazy how rarely we all do that. Your date night looks super cozy, made me miss our couch ๐Ÿ™‚ the post has motivated me to do a date night very soon as well ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you!

  7. I’m jealous. My man has been working lots due to the holiday season and I know we so need this. I may just text him and get him to pick up a Chinese when he finishes

  8. Aww..how cute! I totally agree that date nights doesnโ€™t always have to be fancy. For as long as you have the good company, everything is perfect!

  9. Aw this is really nice! Thanks for sharing, and agree I think the company is very important compared to the venue or activity

  10. Na impromptu date night is great, especially if you have little time, and still being at home with just the person that you adore is all you need for a date night, sure a few fancy ones here and there are acceptable and welcomed, but sometimes simple is better, especially without TV and mobile phones, just the two of you, and peace and quiet, you show each other that you care and you have an enjoyable night without much expenses.

  11. I like to do this with my fiancee, too. Not necessarily with pizza, but taking the time to cook something he likes or ordering sushi because he’s a fan (though I’m not, but hey, it’s ok every now and then)

  12. Wow! It looks great moment with your husband. Stunning photos! Love this so much โค๏ธ

  13. It’s so easy to fall into a rut and forget the importance of things like this. I applaud your effort as it’s a reminder to all of us that date night can be inexpensive and relaxed.
